I like all kinds of music. The way I see it, if you’re only listenin’ to one or two things, you’re missin’ out on a whole world of other stuff that’s gonna be even better. I started out likin’ rock music and that sort of thing, and Mick come along and he got me listenin’ to newer stuff, electronic music and rap and all that computer stuff with samplin’ and effects. I didn’t like it much at first, I got to say, but it’s growin’ on me. And Paul always had all these tapes along with him when we were on tour, reggae and ska and everything he liked, so that’s what we’d listen to while we were drivin’, and it was good, too. You can hear some of that in The Clash’s music. Tops liked jazz and funk, he used to say he couldn’t have drummed for us if he hadn’t had all that background, and he reckoned it made the music better, too. And my mates, old ones and new ones, they’re always bringin’ me new stuff. Punk rock, cultural music, stuff from around the world with all sorts of instruments – it’s all worth hearin’ and it’s all pretty fantastic.
So I guess I can’t say there’s one song I like better’n all the others. I like just about everything nowadays, and most of it’s great for dancin’, too!
